Transformers Magazine is a publication which follows and publishes about the technology progress of transformers and its important components.
Bushings are crucial transformer components. They provide safe connection between transformer windings and power lines. This includes insulation of live leads from the metallic transformer tank, conducting load current and separating insulating media.
A transformer can have several bushings and a failure of any of them will lead to a transformer failure. Bushings are indeed among the most frequent causes of transformer failure. According to various statistics, bushings cause on average one quarter of all transformer failures. Bushing failures are also the most common cause of transformer fires, which consequently may result in huge financial and environmental damages to the substation.
High voltage bushings are a fragile structure, sensitive to mechanical forces caused by sturdy connection to the nearby object, earthquakes, etc., and they are the most vulnerable part of a transformer in terms of terrorist attacks.
Different types of bushings are in use today:
- Solid type bushings (for low and medium voltages)
- Condenser type bushings (for the highest voltages):
- OIP (oil-impregnated-paper)
- RIP (resin-impregnated-paper)
- RBP (resin-bonded-paper)
- RIS (resin-impregnated-synthetics); etc.
CALL FOR PAPERS
There is substantial ongoing research and development worldwide on challenges related to the bushing technology, modelling and simulation, testing, diagnosis, monitoring, etc.
Transformers Magazine invites submissions for a Special Edition on Bushings, whose aim is to promote research, innovation and exchange of information in relation to the key challenges shaping the development of transformer connectivity.
The preliminary topics of interest are:
- Operational experience
- Testing, monitoring and diagnosis
- Risk mitigation
Our readers, potential authors and other stakeholders are invited to propose additional topics of relevance by 30 April 2017.
Manuscripts must be prepared according to the submission guidelines outlined in the Author Centre of the Transformers Magazine Publish with us webpage.
All submitted manuscripts will undergo an anonymous peer review. Thus, invitation to submit a manuscript does not guarantee inclusion in the special edition.
The editors look forward to receiving paper proposals and manuscripts.
CALL FOR GUEST EDITORS
Upon the publication of the Special Edition, one of the guest editors will be invited to the Editorial Board of Transformers Magazine as a permanent member.
