The Asian Development Bank has approved a $44.76 million grant to support the development of a 20 MW solar project in Afghanistan.
The project, which will also provide a power transformer and support facilities, and upgrade the capacity of the existing substation, is located in the capital Kabul’s Surobi district and would generate around 43 GWh of electricity per year, reports PV Tech.
The project aims to both increase power supply and improve sustainability of the northeast grid covering Kabul, Nangarhar, and Laghman provinces.
The site and substation will also be prepared in such a way as to accommodate a further 10-20 MW of solar for future development.
