USA, Washington D.C.: Siemens CEO Joe Kaeser has accompanied German Chancellor Merkel on her visit to the U.S. President Donald Trump, where he joined a discussion with the President focused on workforce development.
During the meeting at the White House, Kaeser reinforced Siemens' commitment to strengthening American manufacturing, the company said in a press statement.
Kaeser announced a commitment to nearly double the company’s apprenticeship program, hire and train hundreds more veterans per year, and provide an additional $2 billion in in-kind grants of its Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) Software for academic and institutional use.
He also highlighted the company's recent announcement of an expansion of Siemens' Walpole, Massachusetts, manufacturing and R&D facility. Siemens anticipates the $300 million investment may ultimately create as many as 700 permanent new jobs through 2026.
