Australia, Adelaide: Energy company AGL is planning to build a new 210 MW gas-fired power station in Adelaide which will replace the four units at the existing 480 MW Torrens Island A power station, which has operated since 1967.

Earlier this year, the existing 50-year-old plant experienced an explosion and fire caused by a failed transformer, and in March the company's wholesale markets general manager Richard Wrightson said the Torrens Island power station was nearing the end of its life, reports Sourceable.

The new plant, with new electrical equipment, will be operational by 2019.
