Kenya: A consortium of Chinese companies has been awarded a $94 million contract by Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (Ketraco) to complete the transmission line linking Lake Turkana Wind Power to Kenya’s national grid by August 31, following the termination of the contract with a Spanish firm last year.
The 428 km power line that will evacuate the wind electricity from the northern town of Marsabit to Suswa substation in Narok is currently 70 percent completed, reports Daily Nation.
The project also includes building a substation in Marsabit.
The Lake Turkana wind farm, the largest in Africa, will have a capacity of 310 MW, enough to power up to one million homes.
