India, Navi Mumbai: A 600 MVA transformer under Rohitra Unit 2 located at the 400 KV Kalwa substation caught fire on Friday, damaging also Rohitra Unit 1 transformer, leaving only one transformer functional.

The incident disrupted power supply to Thane and Navi Mumbai, which will continue for a few more days, reports The Hindu.

According to Vishwajeet Bhosale, an official from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), “there is enough electricity, but the load of transmitting the power to different areas is now on a single transformer.”

“The infrastructure has been damaged and our team is doing their best to repair the fault,” added Bhosale.
