The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has energized the Gombe to Damaturu 330 kV transmission line and a 150 MVA power transformer at Damaturu substation last weekend, three months after it took over the project from a contractor.
TCN said the line was constructed in 2013 but was not energized. It also energised the associated 75 MVA reactors to boost stable bulk power delivery under its Transmission Rehabilitation and Expansion Programme (TREP).
In a statement by the Public Affairs Head, Mrs Ndidi Mbah, the public utility firm said its engineering team is completing another 60MVA transformer at the substation and will be ready in two weeks.
It said: “The Damaturu 330 kV Substation project contract was awarded in 2006 but like the Wudil 132kV Substation which was taken over from the contractor and completed about a month ago, TCN engineers took over the contract three months ago, and energized it.”
Two towers on the transmission line were vandalized in 2015 but are being stringed by a contractor and will be ready in one week to energise a brand new Maiduguri 330/132/33 kV Substation.
