India, Jammu and Kashmir: GE Power has commissioned a 400/200 kV gas insulated substation at Magam village in the Baramulla block of north Kashmir.
Situated at an altitude of 1,710 metres in the snow-covered hills of Amargarh, the project was delivered under harsh weather conditions and sub-zero temperatures, the manufacturer said in the press release.
“Transporting the material through Jawahar Tunnel was especially challenging. For transportation of transformers we had to dismantle the entire lighting rail and fixtures of Jawahar tunnel and redo it within a limited time window,” said Shailesh Mishra, Business Unit Head, Turnkey Solutions South Asia for GE Grid solutions.
The project will provide access to reliable power year-round for over half a million Jammu and Kashmir citizens.
