Siemens has been awarded a contract to connect the Moray East offshore wind farm to the UK national grid.
The contract covers supply of all necessary components, such as the offshore transformer modules (OTMs), as well as the construction of the onshore substation with power transformers that will transformer the electricity into 275 kV for feeding it into the national transmission grid, reports Wind Power Engineering.
The wind farm, 22 km off the Aberdeenshire coast of Scotland, will have an installed generation capacity of 950 MW after its completion.
After commissioning, Moray East will provide enough clean energy to power almost one million UK homes.
