Germany: SGB-SMIT is investing in the expansion of the production capacity at their manufacturing site in Neumark, Germany, with the current production hall already exceeding the originally intended transformer manufacturing output of 2,500 MVA a year.

By the end of 2018, the plant will have produced and dispatched 11,000 oil-filled distribution transformers, the output corresponding to a total output of 11,000 MVA. Four years ago, 8,430 transformers were manufactured with a total capacity of 7,100 MVA, reports Freie Presse.

The company has also invested in training at it’s Chemnitz site aiming to ensure that sheet metal production at the site is sufficient for their transformer manufacturing needs.

“This is by far the largest plant in terms of capacity, with 3,500 tonnes of electrical steel passing through each year, which makes us largely independent of external suppliers.” said Managing Director Erwin Birbacher.
