As per ANDE, the public tender for the new 500 kV Yacyretá–Villa Hayes transmission line is underway with a total investment of $213 million, which will contemplate the supply and installation of two 500 kV reactor banks in the Villa Hayes substation, supply of a communication and control system for the ANDE Load Cutting Scheme (ECCA), and the restoration and modernisation of the existing 66 kV San Lorenzo substation to the 220 kV level.
A second 500 kV Transmission line is the one that will link the Right Bank of Itaipú Binacional with the city of Yguazú, in Alto Paraná, for a total investment amount of USD 170 million, to ensure the total availability of Paraguayan energy from Itaipu and the distribution of rural electricity. This project includes the construction of new substations such as the Yguazú in 500 kV, Right Bank-Maria Auxiliadora in 220 kV and the new 2x500 kV Right Bank-Yguazú transmission lines, the 2x220 kV Yguazú-Km 30 and the line in 220 kV Santa Rita-María Auxiliadora.
For the distribution of rural electricity, the improvement of 5,000 km of medium and low voltage lines will be carried out in 13 departments of the eastern region.
In addition, the investment would be required for the first two phases of the Transmission and Distribution System of the Metropolitan System project.
Phase I, worth USD182.6 million, involves the construction of two new substations —Ox Rodeo and Villa Elisa; expansion of the Villeta, Guarambaré, Itauguá and La Victoria substations; construction and repowering of the 220 kV and 66 kV overhead transmission lines; and construction of a new 66 kV underground line that will go from the Lambaré substation to Tres Bocas.
