France, Maine-et-Loire: A powerful Alstom transformer was installed Wednesday in Maine-et-Loire. The operation was conducted by the company RTE with the objective to meet the growing needs in the south of the region.
The power transformer arrived Wednesday from a manufacturing site of the Alstom group based in Germany. The massive transformer weighed 179 tonnes and was transported on the 31st March by river to Corbeil, in Essonne, then it was transported by road to the installation site.
The cost of the transformer is almost € 2.5 million ($ 3.4 million) and the overall cost of the substation is € 23 million ($ 31.3 million), reports Ouestfrance-Enterprises. It will be commissioned in late October 2014. The new system will secure the electricity needs of the industry for decades.
