Electrical transformers creating oil stains could soon be a thing of a past.
The installation of a new transformer on the 16th September at Adjots, Charente, France came as a result of many innovative advancements conducted between Valagro (specialising in green energy), DuPont and ERDF.
The companies have been testing 12 transformers in the region since 2008 and the objective was to replace "oil from petroleum products with vegetable rapeseed oil, produced locally from renewable resources," said Jean -Francois Cessac with ERDF before his visit to the site at Adjots.
The first 3,000 litres of oil composed of high-oleic rapeseed and esters have been developed by Valagro, after 7 years of work and research conducted jointly with EDF R&D and ERDF. This innovative industrial oil will supply the first 200 transformers of this type in Poitou-Charentes, France and neighbouring departments.
"We expect a rise until the commissioning of 800 transformers," says Jean -Francois Cessac, since they have the same thermal and electrical performance as conventional transformers with the advantage of excluding the use of petroleum product derivatives.
