Spain, Basque: Iberdrola, the Bilbao-based Spanish electric utility, has opened Pontika substation in the city of Errenteria in the north of Spain after the substation received a €2.5 million ($2.8 million) capacity and technological upgrade.
As part of the reconstruction, a new 20 MVA power transformer has been added to the existing 10 MVA transformer, increasing the substation capacity to 30 MVA, reports the Basque daily El Diario Vasco.
The new infrastructure incorporates the latest generation technology and will improve the security of electricity supply to 15,000 customers not only in the city, but also in the nearby towns of Oiartzun and Astigarraga.
The new facility has replaced the old substation which existed on the site since 1955.
